Friday Five - July 6th

It's Friday! Time for five of my favorites from around the web. I hope you enjoy them!

1. The Summer of One Thing - Joy Forney

Joy writes, "There is so much to pack into one summer. Even in the midst of a busy life, this summer I want to cultivate one thing. This: Intimacy with the Lord. Time spent in His Presence. Taking all the minutes of my day and turning them towards focusing on His Word and using the Word to worship Him.

2. Blessed Beyond Measure - Preparing for the Best Date Ever

Do you remember when you took that much time and effort to prepare for that special someone, the way your heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name and the prospect that you would get to catch a glimpse of him that day? Read more at Blessed Beyond Measure...

When my kids were young I loved bringing an activity pack to church with us. Especially since Nathaniel was so fidgety--still is some days. This DIY tutorial is adorable and so creative. I almost want to make myself a purse like this. ;)

I love it, and I thought you might too!

4. Homemade Febreze - Life. Family. Love

Homemade Febreze for just $0.15 per bottle!

5. Don't Waste Your Life - John Piper - FREE!

A few weeks ago I gave you a link to a free PDF eBook from John Piper called Momentary Marriage. It's a book that I'm currently reading and highly recommend. Another book of his that I'm reading is Don't Waste Your Life. I'm trying to get both books read because they are so good I can't choose! LOL

Anyway... just after I purchased the eBooks I discovered that many of John Piper's books are FREE on his website. He offers the PDF version. And as I've said before, a PDF can easily be emailed to your Kindle.

Being that I'm a huge John Piper fan, I'm thrilled to offer you a link to the download. It's definitely one of my favorite "Friday Five" pics!

Free Printable!! Grocery Shopping List

When I put a grocery list together, I prefer to plan it out by listing all veggies together, all canned goods, all frozen goods, etc. I find that when I take the time to do this I don't waste as much time zig-zagging throughout the store as I do when I don't plan it out.

It also helps to have things organized when the family is with me. My husband can take one half while I take the other or I can give each of the kids a section.

I have to admit that there are some days when I go in without a list. That's when I spend most of my time walking from one end of the store to the other. I'm goofy that way--if you haven't noticed by now I work best when I'm following lists.

With that in mind, I decided to create a printable that divides the grocery store into several areas for you. This way you can go through each section and fill in the items you need. Each sheet is 8.5 x 11 which is the perfect size for insertion in a home management binder.

I've seen grocery lists before that have all of the items listed so that you can check them off. But if you're anything like me, I'm usually looking for certain items rather than general, therefore I prefer to fill in the spaces myself. I thought this might be a better way to go for the printable. And when my kids are helping me shop I want our list to be specific until they get the hang of things.

Without further ado, here is the "Grocery Shopping List" printable. What you see below is a sample of the high resolution, full-sized version. Click the link below the image to preview the printable and print it.

Google Video content moving to YouTube

Later this summer, all remaining hosted video on Google Video will be moved to YouTube. Google Video stopped taking uploads in May 2009 and now we’re moving the remaining hosted content to YouTube as private videos. Google Video users can rest assured that you won’t be losing any of your content as it will be fully available on YouTube, and you can choose to make those videos public on YouTube if you’d like.

If you would prefer to migrate, delete or download your content yourself, you can do so by visiting the Google Video status page prior to August 20, 2012. After the videos have been moved, you can access all of your videos by visiting the YouTube Video Manager. By default they’ll all be set to private, and you can publish them publicly to your channel at any time. If you haven’t published on YouTube in a while, check out our latest channel designs and more in the YouTube Creator Playbook.

As we said nearly three years ago, the Google Video team is now focused on tackling the challenge of video search. We want to thank the millions of people around the world who have taken the time to create and share videos on Google Video, and we hope that you will continue to share your videos on YouTube.

Choose Joy! And a Titus 2sday Link Up Party!

Choosing joy is an essential part of growing a healthy family, and an attitude of gratitude is vital in the cultivation of marriage. It wasn’t until recent years, however, that I realized just how important our happiness is to my husband and why.

He delights in the joy of his family because he sees our gratitude as a reflection of his gift to us. If we’re on vacation and everyone is having a great time, as our provider, he gains a sense of accomplishment. If we’re at the beach and the kids are laughing and splashing away in the water I can tell that my husband is exactly where he wants to be. One look at his smile confirms I am right.

Just this past Sunday he spent time taking the roof and doors off of our jeep so that we could enjoy fireworks from the comfort of our car. Then he crawled through heavy traffic trying to find us a great place to park. We had an amazing time watching the fireworks, in fact it was one of the best days I've had in a long time.

On our way home I made sure to tell him what an incredible day that I had, "I haven't enjoyed a day as much as this one in years." I said. "Thank you!" And it couldn't have been more true. The night sky was beautiful, the kids were in the back seat and we were feeling the wind in our hair.

I could tell by the tone of his response that he was blessed by my encouragement and my appreciation.

There’s a saying that goes, “When mama is happy, everyone is happy.” I’ve found that to be true in my own home as my mood often sets the tempo in our house.

I love the sounds of a happy home: music playing sewing machine humming, treadmill tapping, clocks ticking, pages turning, noses sniffling, dishes clattering in a sink of soapy water, the gentle pitter patter of slippered feet… Few things in this life are orchestrated as beautifully as the concerto of family life. And we as mothers hold the power to direct the rhythm it holds.

Let's go back to grade ten--it was my favorite school year by far. It was the first year I had my own locker—a corner of the world carved out just for me. Two things hung on the door of that locker (three if you’re counting Scott Baio!).

The first was a verse taken from the Living translation of the Bible:
When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong;
when he is cheerful, everything seems right!
~ Proverbs 15:15, Living Bible
And the second was a poem that reminded me to choose joy in every situation I face. Those words were a constant reminder to keep my mood in check.

Much has changed since those days spent in the hallways at Glenlawn Collegiate, but some things never change. I might not have the gray locker third down from the hall anymore, but I do have the God-given ability to choose joy for both myself and my family. And I do!
