Three Questions - Leslie Ludy

Set Apart Thot... Leslie Ludy asks three questions about where our true fulfillment lies. Here they are again:

1. Are there things in your life that you can't imagine giving up?
2. What do you go to for rest, enjoyment and pleasure?
3. If everything was stripped away, would Jesus Christ be enough for you?

Advice to a New Bride

Courtney blogs at WomenLivingWell.org on the topics of faith, marriage, parenting, and homemaking.  She has been married to her high school sweetheart for nearly 14 years.  She homeschools her son and daughter and is a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute.  In November 2009, she was featured on the Racheal Ray show on the topic of marriage.  Her passion to see women live well inspired her in 2010 to start a second blog called GoodMorningGirls.org.  There women gather together to dig into their Bibles daily through tech accountability groups.

Love Worth Fighting For - And a Titus 2sday Link Up!

This is one of my favorite mini-sermons by Kirk Cameron. Because it's a recap of his "Love Worth Fighting For" event, the video is only 7 minutes long, but it's definitely got some encouraging words for marriages today! I like that he addresses the problem of a sinful heart as being the root of marital problems.

Here are a few of the quotes I pulled from it:

I know that the God who designed the universe also designed marriage.

God speaks with authority on every topic including marriage, and His advice trumps Oprahs every time!

We can struggle with trying to fix our marriage problems, but if we don't first address the problem with the human heart, all the advice is worthless. The Bible says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked," and it's only God who can transform that sinful heart.

People run to Dr. Phil, Dr. Laura and Dr. Ruth about their marriage problems, but the problem isn't as much a problem of communication, or emotions or physicality, as much as it's a problem of the soul. And there's only one qualified Soul Doctor in the universe. His name is Jesus Christ, and He's the first doctor that we should go to with our marriage problems because it's all rooted in the problem of a selfish sinful heart.

Once we get a new heart with new desires through conversion, we can start applying the principles of God's Word.

In marriage we're either moving increasingly toward selfishness and demanding to have things our way which leads to separateness in our relationship or we're surrendering ourselves to the Lord, not demanding our way. But saying, "Lord may your will be done," which leads to togetherness with our spouse.

Instead of asking God to change our spouse so that we can have our marriage our way, we say, "God I'm asking you to give my spouse a new me--change me. And please use me as a vessel of healing in my relationship."

We need to attack sin with great determination and cut it off like a vipers head. And the primary way we do that is by asking God to transform the desires of our heart. And we do that at the cross.

[At the cross of repentance] We develop a love for God and our spouse that is so great that it empowers us to leave our secret sins behind and pursue this God that first loved us.

John Piper - Christian Womanhood

Email subscribers, click here to view it on the website.

I love this video by John Piper. It reminds me of what Biblical womanhood is really about, which is possessing a deep-rooted faith in God.

Listening to the video, I wrote down a few of the key points that he shares along with the scripture to meditate on. The video is only four and a half minutes long--enjoy!
  • The deepest root of Christian womanhood is hope in God. She doesn't put her hope in her husband or in getting one, and she doesn't put her hope in her looks.
  • This hope in God yields fearlessness. "You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear." ~ 1 Peter 3:6, NIV.
  • He is sovereign over everything. Your knowledge and understanding of this is what drives out your fear as you rest in Him.
  • A certain kind of tree grows up from this massive deep root of hope in God, and it yields fearlessness in the face of suffering. "Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." ~ 1 Peter 4:19, KJV.

I'd Rather Have a Proverbs 31 Woman Than a Victoria's Secret Model

Alex Eklund, a student at Baylor University, posted a status on Facebook stating, "I'd rather have a Proverbs 31 woman than a Victoria's Secret Model." Since then, other Baylor students and their friends have reposted, made graphics, and even a page has been made for it all because of the positive reaction it received from the people that saw it. Here are Alex's thoughts on the movement's beginning as well as some of his goals for the movement and what he believes the message means to so many people.

In Memory of Dad - Watch Me Speak ~ Hear Me Sing

A young boy blessed us with the video from my father's funeral, and although it's incredibly shaky I'm grateful for his labor of love.

P.S. I know Jesus cried in the garden of "Gethsemene," not "Eden." Argh--wish I could correct it like a typo, but thankfully God knows my heart.

It's a New Day - Candace Cameron Bure

Back in April I posted a blog about a busy and blessed week I was having. Candace Cameron Bure and her husband Val were in Winnipeg and I had the privilege of sitting in on the taping of "It's a New Day," a Christian program hosted by Williard Thiessen and his family.

As you can imagine it was an exciting day, and I've been waiting for the show to air ever since.

The wait is over because the show airs today!

If you don't get "It's a New Day" in your area, you can still catch the show because they have posted it online as well.

I'm very excited to present it to you. Hope you enjoy! (Click the image above to watch the show.)

Gotta See This One! Wow!!

Four men, one calling: to serve and protect. When tragedy strikes home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering.

Protecting the streets is second nature. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous.

In theaters September 30th. Can't wait!

10 Ways to Use Facebook as a Ministry Tool

I remember reading an email about five years ago from a friend who told me about a "must-see" website. She insisted that I sign up to at least try it out.

For the first 48 hours I had no clue what I was doing, or why I was on there, but I had agreed to give it a test run. After about two days I got the hang of things, and once I realized the potential it had--I was hooked.

I've since come to realize that facebook can be an ally or it can be the enemy depending on how you choose to use or abuse it. I want to use it. In fact I'd like to see it used for the glory of God.

Certainly I enjoy connecting with my friends and relatives as I check out their photos and keep in touch with them over the years--I'll always enjoy that. But facebook also has the potential to be a great ministry tool for those who, like me, enjoy being connected online.

Let's look at ten ways that we can use it as a ministry tool:
  1. Share scripture with your friends. If you're like me you probably have a mix of both Christian and non-Christian friends. But because all of my friends know that I'm a believer, they don't mind me sharing my faith. In fact they've come to expect it.

Popular belief is that living a "good" life is enough of a witness, but as we see in the gospel the Word also needs to be preached. The Word is infallible--my walk is not.

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. ~ 1 Corinthians 1:21
  2. Offer links to interesting videos or articles that might minister to your readers. There are so many inspiring videos and blog posts on the net just waiting to be shared.
This doesn't mean that your entire content has to be filled with words of wisdom. Friends are interested in your day-to-day life, which might include photos of you at the park or funny status updates. I prefer to show my true character, which includes a mix of both. God created me to smile and laugh, which is a natural part of who I am.
  3. Be friendly. Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly." If you want to be effective online show a genuine interest in the lives of others. Comment on other statuses, send private notes of encouragement and always be ready to offer prayer--on the spot--when it's needed.
  4. Be wary of status lines that slam other people, and don't get drawn into the gossip. Remember you're only reading one side, and more often than not, the person who is being slammed or insulted is reading the comments too. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." ~ John 13:35.

Your love is a witnessing tool, therefore it's important that you nurture and protect your attitude. Avoid the gossip pools that tend to take place on facebook, blog comments, and message boards.
  5. If you have a blog, set up "Network Blogging" through facebook. It's an app that is easy to use and will automatically publish all of your blog posts onto your facebook page. Here's a link: http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks
  6. Use Twitter Feed to have your facebook status automatically sent to Twitter. This doubles your exposure and offers yet another platform to share your ministry. The good thing about this app is that you can have a status line that is longer than a tweet. Twitter will prompt readers to click through to read the entire message. You can set that up here: http://twitterfeed.com
  7. Create a fan "page" in about 5 minutes. Simply go to a page like mine at: http://www.facebook.com/timewarpwife and look for "Create a page" in the bottom left hand corner. You can create one for your church or any ministry topic that you like. I have created several of these and they are great for connecting and chatting with people. One of my favorite pages was created for Evangel Chapel called, "Evangel Chapel, Past, Present, and Future." Members of the church are connected there, and many who aren't attending church any longer still have that constant connection. Love it! I've also created one for my church and my friend's church.
  8. Invite readers to a church event or a Sunday morning service and link to your church website. Just a general invitation in your status is enough. If they don't want to come, they won't, but you never know who might be interested or who might be waiting for a gentle nudge.
  9. Create a fun or inspiring video and upload it to facebook. People love watching and sharing videos, so why not try creating your own? If you don't know how, find out what kind of webcam you have and check if YouTube has a tutorial. Facebook allows you to load the video directly to your website so that it's easily accessible to your friends and always in your sidebar.
  10. Be willing to stand up for your faith, even when it feels like you are standing alone. If someone comments on one of your status lines and disagrees with what you said, that doesn't mean that you have to delete your status. You are entitled to say whatever you want to say, and there will ALWAYS be people who disagree. Even Jesus (especially Jesus) had people who disagreed with Him.

Some words of disagreement may be worth considering and cause you to dig deep into the Word, but be careful that you aren't compromising your faith just to make everyone happy.
Watch this video. It's a little bit weird, but it teaches me how vital standing alone in our faith can be. It only takes one person to start a movement and make a change in this world.

1 Good Reason to Be Unpopular ~ Francis Chan

The next time I'm in the middle of a hate storm, I pray that I'm not only reminded of this truth, but that I take it to heart and cherish the value that this message holds.

And if you are in the middle of a storm, my friend, I pray that you will also find strength in these words. Not only today but also in future storms to come. We are riding together in this battle. You are not alone!

Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. ~ Luke 6:23-23

Biblical Womanhood - And a Titus 2sday Linkup!!

Today I'm sharing a four minute video that will change the way you look at the future. John Piper define's Biblical Womanhood as having two characteristics.

1. She puts her hope in God.
2. She does good, and doesn't fear anything because of that hope.

For after this manner in the old
time the holy women also, who trusted
in God, adorned themselves, being in
subjection unto their own husbands:
Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling
him lord: whose daughters ye are,
as long as ye do well, and are not
afraid with any amazement.
~ 1 Peter 3:5-6
